Sleep Sweet Child

Nothing to shield the dreaded dreams
And their sweet embrace in his sleep
The smile is shallow, the pain is deep
Failure the only light that gleams
Flickers of hope and joy taunting
With promises to erase all ache
With promises they should not make
Only fainted stars watching
At least until the dreamer's awake...
Such beautiful child, with it's goals and aims
Knowledgeable, pretty and sane
All goods and traits none will claim
And so the sparkle is gone, from within it dies
Human turned clone, "the others" he spies
Has been a while since he forgot his quest
And as he settles for second or third best
"Woulda-shoulda-coulda" roams his mind
And how life was never fair or kind
Not long until he slips into despair...
Go to sleep child! Life is the Nightmare!
